14th annual Silver Games at Friendship Village

It's the time of year when the competitive spirit of the residents kicks into gear. Friendship Village recently held its 14th annual Silver Games event. For the first time, the physical and brain game competitions were spread out over a month rather than held in one week, as in previous years.

"More than 35 different events were held. Extending the games from one week to the full month allowed more people to participate in various competitions," said Carla Smith, director of lifestyles.

More than 265 residents competed this year. Favorite events included balloon volleyball, fishing, archery, table tennis, pop-a-shot, bocce ball, bags and more.

"The enthusiastic participation in some of the events, like bocce ball, showed us that we need to ramp up these activities throughout the rest of the year since the residents enjoyed them so much."

Awards were presented to all of the top contenders, and a celebratory closing ceremony was held with special refreshments, a video of the monthlong games, and a performance by the Friendship Village Choir.

"Residents are already planning their strategies to win for the 2023 Silver Games," said Carla.

The Silver Games are developed for all ability, activity and interest levels, focusing on celebrating seniors.
