Hindu community gears up to celebrate 'Diwali' by donating food to less fortunate

As about 1 billion Hindus around the world getting ready to celebrate 6 day Diwali festival which starts on 23rd October 2022, The Hindu community in USA is getting ready to celebrate the festival by serving the less fortunate families by donating the food and other essential items to food pantries across the country under the initiative of "Sewa Diwali."

"Sewa Diwali" is organized by Sewa International and Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS) along with many dharmic organizations, communities and individuals who believe in Sewa Dharma i.e. Service to Humanity is Service to Divinity. Nationwide initiative started on 24th September 2022 and goes till 6th November 2022.

Last year, within 1 month of food collection with the help of 315 organizations and communities along with 1800 volunteers across 480 collection centers, 590,000 lbs. (491,000 meals) of food was donated to 240 beneficiaries. In Chicagoland itself they collected 51102 lbs. of food in 2021 and planning to go beyond this year.
