Side Street Studio Arts hosts Fox Valley Performing Arts Roundtable Aug. 20

Side Street Studio Arts in Elgin is hosting the first Fox Valley Performing Arts Roundtable, a discussion of the current state of the performing arts scene and how to collaborate to foster growth and creativity.

On Saturday, Aug. 20, stakeholders in the performing arts will gather for an open discussion with a few preset talking points and the opportunity to discuss anything that comes up.

All who wish to speak will be given time, within reason. Some of the discussion will revolve around organizational recovery from COVID, collaboration, equity, communication, space needs, and other topics brought up during the event.

The roundtable will be moderated by Nick Mataragas, Side Street Studio arts assistant director and Elgin Fringe Festival artistic director.

"We have so many great people involved in the performing arts here in the Fox Valley, and one way all of us can grow is by coming together and building a community where we can cultivate an even more vibrant scene," Mataragas said.

"The hope is that the roundtable is a catalyst for that community building."

Mataragas has extensive experience in the performing arts as an actor, improviser, writer, podcaster, director, and producer. He is also the founder of Memoriam Development, a small production company based in the Chicago suburbs.

The event is free and open to the public. It will take place from noon to 2 p.m. at Side Street Studio Arts, 15 Ziegler Court in downtown Elgin.

Individuals can register for the roundtable at forms.gle/m8A23kK55HBws9VA8.
