Greener Glenview June 21 Program: Recycling-Myth and Reality

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., Greener Glenview will be hosting an expert panel to address recycling fact and fiction.

Speakers include Christina Seibert, Executive Director of SWANCC, the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County; Mary Allen, SWANCC's Recycling and Education Director; and Javier Erazo, Waste Connections' District Manager, the operator of Groot's Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) where the recyclables are processed.

Topics include which materials can and cannot be recycled by Groot, MRF operations & emerging recycling technologies, the markets for the various types of recyclable materials, and current controversies & new directions in the field.

The program, co-sponsored by the Village of Glenview and Glenview Park District, will be held at the Glenview Park Center (Lakeview Room), 2400 Chestnut Avenue.

Greener Glenview co-founder Sheri Latash stated, "There is much confusion and cynicism about recycling. Recent articles in national media have posed many thought-provoking questions. This program will present the facts on the local recycling system and also address the broader recycling issues."

Co-founder Mary Munday added, "Of the 23 communities that are members of SWANCC, Groot provides recycling services to 12 of them. So, this program is not only for Glenview residents. Our hope is that this education effort will increase recycling participation and reduce contamination of loads taken to the MRF."

Greener Glenview (GreenerGlenview.org) is a non-profit community environmental group. Through education and advocacy, we seek to put sustainability at the heart of how we live. Registration for this program is appreciated: GreenerGlenview@gmail.com.
