Bensenville Park 'n Play begins May 21 with DiOrio Park Play Dayz

The Bensenville Park District invites residents to "meet us at the park" with its new Park 'n Play initiative aimed at meeting people where they live by providing programming in neighborhood parks.

"We want to provide activities that make people want to get outdoors, connect with their neighbors and, most of all, have fun," says Bensenville Park District Superintendent of Recreation Michael Hayes. "Park 'n Play is meant to provide residents activities that let them explore new interests with our parks providing the backdrop. We hope our residents will enjoy the wide variety of things going on - movies, dancing, fitness, sports and more - at their neighborhood parks."

The first of the summer's Park 'n Play events is Play Dayz, which takes place 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at DiOrio Park, located on Barron Street between Memorial Road and West Wood Ave. Play Dayz participants ages 4 and older can take part in a variety of different activities throughout the park, including tie-dying and nature activities as well as making and flying a kite. The event is free for district residents.

"Our neighborhood parks can accommodate a wide range of recreation needs based on the surrounding neighborhood, and we can help foster community and wellness by providing programming in them," Hayes adds.

Bensenville parks have nature trails, exercise stations, swimming pools, splash pads, baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts, thematic playgrounds and more features. They also commonly have picnic areas, pavilions and other features.

Park 'n Play highlights include an "Entertainment Dayz Movie in the Park" at Kremples Park featuring "The Goonies" June 11; 'Dance Dayz' at Rose Park June 25; a July 9 'Entertainment Dayz Dive-In Movie' showing of "Aquaman" at the Bensenville Water Park & Splash Pad; Fitness Dayz July 23; Sports Dayz events at Poplar Park, Sunrise Park and Woodcrest Park August 6 and the final 'Entertainment Dayz Movie in the Park' presentation of "Sing 2" at Sunset Park.
