Hanover Twp. gives out community service awards

An awards ceremony was held Saturday, April 30, at the Hanover Township Senior Center in Bartlett to recognize the 2022 Supervisor's Community Service Award recipients.

A volunteer committee reviewed the nominations submitted by the community for awards in five categories.

Nominations are judged on the service activities of the individual or community organization, in addition to the impact the service has on the community and individuals in the community.

Awards were presented to: Jacqueline Meza, Youth Volunteer; Thomas Witt, Adult Volunteer; Billie Tucker, Senior Volunteer; Streamwood Blood Commission, Service Organization of the Year; and Streamwood Target, Business Organization of the Year.

This year's committee included chairwoman Lorrie Glaser, Lori Ann Airdo, William Henderson, Kerrie Trebonsky, and Mary Wojtczak,

"The many acts of selfless service from individuals and organizations in our community too often go unnoticed and unrecognized," said Brian P. McGuire, Hanover Township supervisor. "The significant accomplishments by nominees and award winners from the past year have made a tremendous impact in our community."

Those receiving the Supervisor's Choice Awards included: Packaging by Design, Business Organization of the Year; Cherylyn Anders, Senior Volunteer; Dave Schoepke, Adult Volunteer; and Savannah Widmann, Youth Volunteer.

Robert Jerry Simandl Sr. was presented with the event's top recognition, the Mary Ellen "Mel" Runzel Volunteer Service Award.

A resident of Hoffman Estates, Simandl has been a volunteer officer with the Hanover Township Emergency Services Unit for 10 years.

The award was created in 2013 to honor Runzel for her immeasurable efforts in creating new programs, and recruiting volunteers throughout as a former township trustee and township Welfare Services director.
