Friendship Village residents' fundraise for Ukraine relief

Concerned and saddened by the war in Ukraine, the residents of Friendship Village in Schaumburg held a fundraising drive.

Proceeds collected over 10 days were directed to the World Central Kitchen, a not-for-profit organization that provides meals to disaster survivors. Since the day after the attack from Russia began, WCK has been serving meals to thousands of families, both remaining in the country and escaping the violence.

Carla Smith, director of Lifestyles, supports the residents' fundraising initiative.

"The residents are not picking sides or being political about the world event," said Smith. "This is a humanitarian effort to serve the purpose of providing food for people who are hungry."

Friendship Senior Options Foundation is the philanthropic affiliate of Friendship Senior Options, which oversees Friendship Village. The director of the foundation vetted potential recipient organizations on behalf of the residents to ensure that money is sent to a legitimate steward of Ukrainian relief.

Friendship Village senior living community residents are passionate about events happening in the world around them.
