Saint Viator Seeks Host Families for International Students During 2022-2023 School Year

More than a decade ago, Saint Viator High School in Arlington Heights launched the Reverend Mark R. Francis, CSV, International Program, in which the school welcomes international students from countries around the globe. Each year, the school is approached by individuals and educational agencies looking to place international students at Saint Viator. During the 2021-2022 school year, 45 international students are attending Saint Viator High School.

The school is currently looking for host families in the area who are interested in housing an international student for the 2022-2023 school year. Host families would house the student from August of 2022 through June of 2023, providing a room, meals and transportation to and from school.

"The benefits of hosting an international student are immeasurable for both your family and the international student," claims Austin Bellino, the International Program Director and Testing Coordinator at Saint Viator High School. "You'd be welcoming a student into your home and allowing them to participate in your family activities for the school year. You'll expose them to American traditions and our way of life, all while allowing them to receive an incredible education."

Participating families will receive a stipend of approximately $1,000 per month to cover any additional expenses associated with housing a young student. And the host families and students will both have access to a local coordinator who can assist with any issues students may encounter during their stay.

To be accepted into the program, students must demonstrate an above average mastery of the English language and be strong students. They must also show proof of medical and liability insurance and have F-1 visas, which means their parents have proven they can financially support their child while attending school in the U.S. Parents of admitted students must also sign a liability release for the host family and school.

"Much like our standard admissions process, Saint Viator is looking for strong academic performers and international students with great character," says Bellino. "We've received such wonderful feedback from both students and our host families over the years and are excited to be able to continue this program yet again in the coming school year."
