Two chances to hear Elk Grove Village Concert Band

Celebrate the holidays with the Elk Grove Village Concert Band, under the direction of Maestro Randy Steinberg, at either of its two upcoming concerts in December.

After more than a year of pandemic silence, the band's musicians are looking forward to playing and entertaining the public once again.

The program will include both familiar and fresh new arrangements of popular holiday favorites, including Leroy Anderson's "A Christmas Festival."

The first holiday concert will be performed at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at Christus Victor Lutheran Church, 1045 S. Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove Village.

The second will be a repeat performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 19, at St. Colette Catholic Church, 3900 Meadow Drive, in Rolling Meadows.

At both concerts, tickets are available only at the door. Cost is $7 for adults and free for children younger than 12.

Although out of the public eye, the band has not been idle. It has secured two consecutive grants from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, began operation this past summer as the Elk Grove Village Concert Band, and even added a few new members.

Originally founded in 2015 as the Northwest Concert Band by director Ralph Wilder, today's Elk Grove Village Concert Band is one of the premier community concert bands in Chicago's Northwest suburbs. Its 50-plus members have delighted audiences year-round.

Musicians of all ages who play a band instrument are encouraged to join. There is no audition, but members are asked to attend weekly rehearsals Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at St. Colette Parish Hall, 3902 Meadow Drive, Rolling Meadows.

Repertoire includes a variety of musical genres such as classical, marches, Broadway, pop, rock, swing, jazz, and more. In the past, its concert programs have featured guest artists, soloists, singers, vocal ensembles, narrators and even unique instruments.

In addition to concerts, the Elk Grove Village Concert Band works with local communities to provide interesting musical experiences, including parade participation, workshops, educational programs and opportunities to play with and conduct the band.
