Hey Nonny Sets Slate of Holiday Shows

From blues to jazz to cabaret to chamber music — Arlington Heights music venue Hey Nonny has slated holiday concerts for all musical tastes this December.

"Friends and families are all looking for something fun to do together for the holidays," said Hey Nonny co-owner Chip Brooks. "We've got an incredibly fun array of very talented musicians coming this December. We're really excited."

Dec. 4 and 5 bring the return of the Chris White Trio performing the music of "A Charlie Brown Christmas." This accomplished trio of local jazz performers bring the complex but enjoyable music of Vice Guaraldi to life with two shows on the 4th and another on the 5th.

One of the premiere repertory jazz big bands in Chicago, the Heritage Jazz Orchestra, presents a special holiday performance on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Chicago singer Leslie Buekelman will join the band. Select tickets remain to catch this highly regarded ensemble.

The legendary Li'l Ed and the Blues Imperials return to Hey Nonny as they present "Blue Christmas" on Thursday, Dec. 9. Li'l Ed and his band have spent 30 years establishing themselves as one of the finest, hard-hitting acts in blues. It promises to be an unforgettable holiday show with Li'l Ed's gloriously rollicking slide work, along with his rough-edged, soulful vocals.

Comedy gets its turn during the holidays as Jeanie Doogan headlines a Hey Comedy night at 7:30 on Dec. 10. Doogan has set herself apart with her quick observations and no-apology take on teaching, parenthood, and American culture.

Multi-award-winning jazz vocalist Alyssa Allgood presents "Home for the Holidays" on Dec. 14. Allgood has been acclaimed as the best young jazz singer in Chicago. She'll be returning from her second engagement at New York City's famed Birdland jazz club.

The ladies keep control of the stage on Dec.15 as Hey Nonny presents "Girls Like Us - Holiday Cheer." Join Chicago cabaret favorites Laura Freeman, Beckie Menzie, and Marianne Murphy-Orland as they spread cheer with a collection of holiday favorites.

Chicago's most talented young musical theater performers come together in a uniquely themed show by hometown girl and former New York cabaret performer Carly Stocking in "Café Carly"on Dec. 16. This holiday-themed show promises to be a memorable holiday event.

Get ready to swing as the "Anthony Bruno Christmas Spectacular" combines Bruno's vocals and saxophone playing with classic holiday tunes powered by his orchestra, a week ahead of Christmas Eve on Dec. 17.

Chicago's Gaudete Brass Quintet is nationally renowned for their lively performances. For the Quintet's Dec. 21 holiday show, their tasteful tunes are augmented by tacky sweaters and cheerful audience interaction. The Gaudetes believe strongly in the expressive and communicative power of brass chamber music.

Finally, local favorites the DeTogne Sibs share great holiday music and laughter with "Getting Santa-Mental" on the 23rd of December. Morgan will be back in town from her New York City performance schedule. Francesca is a longtime Chicago theater favorite, and Max (a former busboy at Hey Nonny) has performed all over the U.S., and on the Chicago Shakespeare stage. Their 2019 show sold out quickly and provided a rollicking end to the holiday show season.

For the entire holiday season, Hey Nonny's Bistro will feature its "A Christmas Story" pop-up decorations - including all of the great visuals from the classic film like the leg lamp, the flag pole, and the Red Ryder BB gun. The movie will be featured on the main room movie screens as well.
