Stay safe online with cybersecurity tips from CLC

During National Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October, College of Lake County (CLC) looks to raise awareness and provide tips about the importance of cybersecurity online through virtual sessions. These sessions are just one of the many services the college offers the local community to ensure Lake County has the resources it needs.

"To quote Benjamin Franklin, when it comes to cybersecurity, 'an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,'" said Byron Sosa, CLC director of cybersecurity. "Just like changing the oil or the wipers for your car, your PCs, laptops, tablets and phones also need some maintenance to ensure they are operating efficiently and securely."

Sosa, a 20+-year cybersecurity professional, is one of the presenters during this year's sessions along with Greg Kozak, chief information officer at CLC.

Get a new tip every Wednesday in October in one of the following sessions from noon to 6 p.m.:

• Oct. 6: Cybersecurity 101: How Can I Reduce My Personal Cybersecurity Risk? Presented by Byron Sosa, CLC director of cybersecurity

• Oct. 13: Getting passwords right: A simple way to achieve the nirvana of easy to use, secure, strong and unique passwords on every site. Presented by Greg Kozak, CLC chief information officer

• Oct. 20: Data Privacy: What Is It and Why Should I Care? Presented by Byron Sosa, CLC director of cybersecurity

• Oct. 27: Cybersecurity Threat Landscape Overview: What Can I Do to Protect Myself? Presented by Member of the FBI's Chicago office
