Chicago Blues Star Toronzo Cannon to Headline Hey Nonny's 3rd Anniversary Celebration

October marks the 3rd anniversary of the opening of the highly-popular bistro and music venue, Hey Nonny in Arlington Heights. To celebrate the milestone, Hey Nonny will present world famous Chicago bluesman Toronzo Cannon for a 7:30 p.m. show on October 16th.

Having weathered the COVID pandemic, Hey Nonny rebounded this year with outdoor dining as a part of the Arlington Alfresco experience and the array of top name performers across multiple musical genres that has solidified the venue's reputation as one of the best "listening rooms" in the country.

"Like all performance venues and many restaurants, we had to go dark last winter,"said owner Chris Dungan. "But we've been going strong since March and look forward to celebrating our 3rd anniversary with our phenomenal patrons."

Mid-October brings a seasonal update to the diverse food menu at Hey Nonny and further establishes the commitment to a range of musical styles as well. Dungan's partner in the venture, Chip Brooks acknowledges those who have helped the club build a solid reputation.

"On the 16th, we'll enjoy a champagne toast to recognize our incredible staff, the patrons who have supported us, and the long list of performers who have contributed to our success."

Cannon has toured the world as a searing example of Chicago blues, lighting up audiences with his smoking guitar licks and sincere vocals. His experience on the Chicago streets was aided by his 28-year career as a CTA bus driver. His 2016 Alligator Records debut, "The Chicago Way," firmly established him as a leader in Chicago's unparalleled blues scene. That album was nominated for a Blues Music Award Album of the Year honor. Attendees at the upcoming Hey Nonny show will be among the first to hear selections from his latest release, "The Preacher, The Politician Or The Pimp." This will be Cannon's fourth appearance at Hey Nonny - each one a sellout.

"Hey Nonny is unique in our ability to host so many musical styles night after night," Dungan said. "Our October lineup includes bluegrass, jazz, rock and blues and features names like Toronzo Cannon, Ralph Covert, Crystal Bowersox, Savoy Brown, and Frank Catalano and Jimmy Chamberlin. We're very proud of what we've established, especially in light of the challenges of the past 18 months."

Musical and dining variety are just part of the Hey Nonny success story according to Brooks.

"We created Hey Nonny to be a place for all seasons. Our outdoor dining option and the ability to open our large windows allow us to really celebrate summer, but our great indoor layout brings some of our biggest crowds for our holiday shows. With a distinct layout, folks who simply want to grab a drink or an exceptional dinner or weekend brunch can settle into the bistro and enjoy a great atmosphere, too."
