Saint Viator Names New Head Coach Of Boys' Varsity Tennis Team
Saint Viator High School Athletic Director Jason Kuffel announced that the school will be promoting Mary Louise Blaney to the position of varsity boys' tennis Head Coach.
Blaney has been involved with the Saint Viator tennis program since 2001 as both the parent of student-athletes and a coach. Over the last three years, she's served as the head coach of the junior varsity girls tennis team and assistant varsity coach of the boys' tennis team. At the end of the last school year, Blaney was named the varsity girls' tennis Head Coach.
"Mary Louise is a staple of the Saint Viator tennis program," said Kuffel. "She's long been a favorite among our athletes and is an excellent mentor and role model for our student-athletes."
In addition to coaching, Blaney has been a competitive tennis player in Chicago, Northern Illinois and California for more than 20 years and is a member of the United States Tennis Association.
"I have loved working with the student-athletes at Saint Viator over the years and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have an even greater impact on this already impressive program," said Blaney. "All four of my children were on the Saint Viator varsity tennis teams, so I understand the pressure student-athletes feel and know the importance of performing well both on the court and in the classroom."
Blaney is currently in the midst of the girls' varsity tennis season and will take over as the head coach of the boys' varsity team in the spring.
This past year, the school became a leader in the ESCC conference in its efforts to create new safety protocols that protect players and coaches from the spread of COVID-19.
