Distinguished Alumni Nominees Sought for Saint Viator and Sacred Heart of Mary High Schools

Nominees are being sought for the 2021 Saint Viator and Sacred Heart of Mary Distinguished Alumni Awards. Nominations are being accepted through June 30.

This award is the Alumni Association's highest honor and was created to recognize alumni of Saint Viator and Sacred Heart of Mary high schools who have accomplished significant and extraordinary achievements in their careers or public service. A committee of alumni, faculty, and community leaders will evaluate the applications and select inductees.

"This is a very important program to Saint Viator High School," said Alumni Relations Manager Krystal Harris. "Graduates of Sacred Heart and Saint Viator have accomplished some extraordinary things in various fields, and we want to recognize the finest among them for their contributions to society."

Harris said that she and a committee of approximately ten others review and debate every nomination they receive.

"It is really important that other alumni, family, friends, even current or past faculty members take the time to share the stories of worthy candidates. We rely heavily on the nominations we receive to make the best possible selections.

Past recipients have included Jim Fruchterman (SVHS '76) a former NASA rocket scientist who went on to pioneer social entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley; Dr. Mildred Olivier (SHM '78) an area ophthalmologist who also travels around the world teaching doctors how to fight blindness from glaucoma, helps hospitals and medical schools eliminate healthcare disparities and ensures cultural competencies among medical practitioners; Dr. Maureen O'Hara (SHM '71), the Purcell Professor of Finance at the Johnson Graduate School of Management, Cornell University whose research looks at the role of toxicity in affecting liquidity in high-frequency markets; and the Reverend L. Scott Donahue (SVHS '72), President & CEO of Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, a therapeutic home that helps children who've suffered abuse, neglect, abandonment, and emotional traumas.
