Sign Up for SALUTE'S Virtual Run and In-Person Memorial Day Weekend Event

Palatine-based nonprofit, SALUTE, INC. has historically held a 5K run on Memorial Day weekend. Wanting to safely carry on the tradition and raise funds for veterans in need, SALUTE, INC. is hosting a virtual 5K race with an in-person packet pick up, potted plant sale, and a collection on Saturday, May 29th from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Recreation Park, 500 East Miner Street, Arlington Heights.

Community members interested in participating are encouraged to sign up for the virtual race by May 20th in order to pick up their commemorative t-shirt and honorary bib during the May 29th event. While at the event, they can enjoy closed container refreshments, shop for plants, and donate household items to the James A. Lovell VA Homeless and HUD/VASH Housing Programs. The in-person, socially distanced event will be hosted by Picket Fence Realty.

At the time and place of their choosing, participants can then run or walk the distance they feel comfortable with to honor the brave men and women who gave up their lives serving our country.

"We look forward to getting back out into the community on May 29th to connect with our supporters," said Mary Beth Beiersdorf, Executive Director of SALUTE, INC. "This year's event will certainly look different than in years past, but even a pandemic can't slow us down in our mission to raise funds for the men and women who have served our country and are now experiencing a time of great need."

Registration for the virtual run/walk is $25 prior to May 20th and includes a race shirt and bib. Registration increases to $30 after that date. All proceeds will go toward SALUTE's veteran assistance programs. To receive your shirt at the May 29th event, please register by May 20. Any orders placed after the 20 will be shipped to registrants' homes.

For those planning to donate items to the James A. Lovell VA Programs, please limit donations to the specially requested items, which include liquid hand soap, dish soap, glass cleaner, sponges, laundry detergent or pods, and 9V and AA batteries for smoke detectors.

Registration is now open at www.saluteinc.org/events/2021-memorial-day-weekend-event/.
