Midwestern University partners with Hope's Front Door for wellness workshops

Midwestern University has partnered with the community organization Hope's Front Door to provide a series of health and wellness workshops. The program is designed to help Hope's Front Door clients gain a greater understanding of current healthcare topics and provide strategies to help improve their overall health and wellness. Faculty experts and students from Midwestern University's Multispecialty Clinic provide virtual information sessions on topics such as maintaining good emotional health, chronic illness and stress management, pediatric dental care, staying active during the pandemic, facts and misconceptions about the COVID-19 vaccine, and more. The information sessions will continue throughout the year.

Based in Downers Grove, Hope's Front Door provides an entry point to social services for members of the community who need immediate assistance and help in finding continuing support. They play an integral role in ensuring the well-being of individuals, families, and the overall community who may be facing financial or medical crises.

"Our partnership with Midwestern University is invaluable. Being able to tap into the knowledge and expertise of students and faculty means clients are armed with information that will allow them to make long-lasting positive health and well-being changes. This has been particularly useful as we struggle with the impact of the pandemic. Hope's Front Door has been able to host virtual workshops to address COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and how to maintain or regain good mental health in the face of this ongoing crisis. Participants have expressed appreciation for being able to access this information," said Janell Robinson, executive director, Hope's Front Door. "We know that this has been a challenging time for everyone. Many of our clients have lost jobs, experienced reduced work hours, or work in fields that are considered essential. Some have lost loved ones to the virus or grappled with the illness themselves. So, the workshops related to COVID-19 have been particularly beneficial because we believe the information provided by Midwestern University can aid in the overall stability of a household," she added.

The health and wellness workshops are just one example of community outreach Midwestern University faculty, students, and staff participate in each year. The university offers comprehensive, affordable care to the community at the Multispecialty Clinic which includes a Dental Institute, a Family Medicine Practice, the Speech-Language Institute, the Physical Therapy Institute, and the Eye Institute. A team of highly qualified faculty and students work together to provide the best patient care using state-of-the-art technology at all the clinics.
