West Dundee author launches book to honor vow made to his daughter

On April 5, 2017, Jamie Brakefield of West Dundee passed away from a drug overdose. She was 27 years old.

Her family was told the day before she passed that some years earlier she had signed up to be an organ donor. Because she was so young and strong, the donor organization said her decision would directly affect at least 20 lives.

Phil Brakefield, her Dad, swore to her the night before she passed he would figure out a way to honor her legacy as a donor, and thus was born "The Philly Kid Chronicles: Life, Dogs and Rock n Roll."

All proceeds from the book sales will go to creating resources for young people who battle the same addiction challenges Jamie faced.

The book has stories about things as wide-ranging as a trip to Dairy Queen, to the rescue dog who kept the author alive following his daughter's death, to what happened one night when the author shared a beer and a jukebox with Jimi Hendrix in a Texas bar.
