Signup now available for Swedish Days Bicycle Ride

The Swedish Days Bicycle Ride, canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, returns this year on Sept. 12.

The Fox Valley Bicycle & Ski Club is pleased to announce that registration is now open.

Now in its 51st year, the Swedish Days Ride remains one of the premier road bike tours held in northern Illinois and one of the very few Midwestern rides that offers a double metric century (124 miles) in addition to routes of 25 miles, 50 miles, 72 miles or 100 miles (century).

The ride's planned start and end is at Kaneland High School, 47W326 Keslinger Road, Maple Park, or a similar nearby location. From there, all routes travel quiet and scenic paved roads of rural Kane, Kendall and DeKalb counties. Rest stops feature beverages and an assortment of food and restrooms.

Fox Valley Bicycle & Ski Club uses the net proceeds from this event to support the efforts of organizations promoting cycling and outdoor activities throughout Northern Illinois, such as the League of American Bicyclists, Ride Illinois, Active Transportation Alliance, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, Illinois Prairie Path and Project Mobility. This event has no affiliation with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce's Swedish Days Festival.

As part of a COVID-responsible ride experience, registrations will be online only. There will not be on-site registration due to the need for social distancing and limitations on group sizes as prescribed by the state of Illinois.

This event will take place from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12. Riders must be on the course by 8 a.m.

Early registration is $35 per rider, $50 per family (includes two adults and children younger than 18) until Aug. 15.

Late registration is $45 per single rider, $60 for family from Aug. 16 until midnight Sept. 11.

T-shirts are $25 each; orders must be received by July 1. Jerseys are $65 each (sport-cut Primal in short sleeved, sleeveless and racerback full zip styles in sizes S-3XL); $10 discount for FVBSC members.

To register, visit www.fvbsc.org.

The Swedish Days Ride will operate rain or shine. There will be no refunds due to weather. If the event needs to be canceled due to unforeseen circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, a refund or roll forward option will be issued at the discretion of the Fox Valley Bicycle & Ski Club board of directors.

FVBSC offers an array of ride options, ranging from novice/casual to advanced shown on its event www.fvbsc.org, to help you train for the big day. Weekly rides are open to FVBSC members ($20 annual membership fee) and guests (two free rides maximum).

For information, contact Julia at swedishdays@fvbsc.org or (630) 514-0714.
