Mundelein Parks commissioner lauded for his service

Illinois Association of Park Districts recognized Kevin Dolan for serving three, 2-year terms on the IAPD Board of Trustees at the Annual Business Meeting held during the Soaring to New Heights Conference on Jan. 30.

Dolan is a commissioner on the board of the Mundelein Park & Recreation District, serving since 1997. He played a key role in enhancing the agency's programs, services and facilities, including the newly constructed 12,000-square-foot Dunbar Recreation Center, Barefoot Bay Family Aquatic Center and the development of the Diamond Lake Sports Complex.

Since 2013, Dolan served on nearly every IAPD committee, including the Ambassadors, Constitutional Bylaws, Executive, Membership, Nominating, and Program committees, as well as the Joint Conference Committee, Joint Distinguished Park and Recreation Accreditation Committee, Joint Editorial Committee, Joint Legislative Committee and the Joint Coordinating Council.

Dolan continues to serve on numerous IAPD committees, including Honors and Resolutions, Board Development, Constitutional Bylaws, and the Membership Committee. He also serves on the Joint Distinguished Park & Recreation Accreditation and Joint Legislative committees.

Plus, he serves on Friends of Illinois Parks Foundation, an organization that works to protect and enhance parks, open spaces, and the quality of life in Illinois communities.

Dolan has been a strong advocate for legislation strengthening park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation and special recreation agencies in Illinois, as well as throughout the nation.

"It was an incredible honor to have Kevin's dynamic leadership on the IAPD Board of Trustees," IAPD President and Chief Executive Officer Peter Murphy said.

"He is an extraordinary advocate for the benefits of parks and recreation, and his vast experience, combined with his heartfelt enthusiasm for enhancing the quality of life for Illinois citizens, were key components of advancing our mission to keep Illinois' park districts, forest preserves, conservation, and recreation agencies among the nation's best."

At Mundelein Park and Recreation District, Dolan has held the office of treasurer, vice president and president of the board of commissioners. His current term ends in the spring. He is on the April ballot for another 6-year term.
