Donate Blood at Schaumburg's Community Blood Drive Jan. 19

The Village of Schaumburg encourages the public to participate in the first Community Blood Drive of the new year that will take place from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19, at The Barn, 231 S. Civic Drive in Schaumburg.

The blood drive is open to the public, and Vitalant now tests all successful donations for COVID-19 antibodies free of charge. The antibody tests are used to tell if someone had a past infection with SARS-CoV-2. The antibody test is not a way to find out if you are currently infected with this virus. Donors found positive of the antibody, may be able to help others with a convalescent plasma donation.

To learn more about convalescent plasma donations and how and where to donate, visit www.vitalant.org/covidfree for more information.

Interested blood donor participants should call (877) 258-4825 or register online at www.vitalant.org and use sponsor code SH98. Appointments are highly recommended to reduce wait times; however, walk-ins are welcome.

All participants must wear a face covering at the event, and safe social distancing measures will be in place. If you are feeling unwell, please stay home.

Participating donors will receive a coupon for a pint of Culver's frozen custard and will be entered into a random drawing for a chance to win Jewel gift cards.

Schaumburg partners with Vitalant to offer five blood drives a year for the community to help with blood donation. For more information about the village's community blood drives, please visit www.schaumburg.com/blooddrives, dial 311 in the village, or call the Nursing Division at (847) 923-3767.
