Local residents elected to Girl Scouts board of directors
Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana recently elected four individuals to its volunteer board of directors.
They are: Lake Bluff resident Roycealee Wood, Lake County, Illinois Regional Superintendent of Schools; Northbrook resident Paul Gariepy, partner principal at Ernst & Young; Naperville resident Mary Bakken, executive vice president, chief operating officer at Silver Cross Hospital; and Hinsdale resident Kathy Graham, senior vice president, senior portfolio manager, U.S. Bank.
The organization's board is composed of women and men who believe in the value of Girl Scouting and the program's ability to build girls of courage, confidence and character. Directors join the board in either two- or three-year terms after being elected by the council's voting delegates during its annual meeting or nominated to fill open positions during the rest of the year.
"I'm pleased to welcome our newest members to our board," said Nancy Wright, CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Indiana. "Our board members play a vital role in guiding our strategic vision forward, strengthening our organization, and elevating our mission, especially during these unprecedented times."
Board members of Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Indiana use their professional expertise and personal perspectives to make decisions that provide leadership for the council within its bylaws and policies. These governance volunteers represent the organization's membership and reflect its diversity, including geographic, racial/ethnic, gender, age and socio-economic.
Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana impacts the lives of nearly 45,000 girls and 19,000 adult members and volunteers, and generations of alumnae. It serves 245 communities in six Illinois counties (Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kankakee, Lake, and Will) and four Indiana counties (Jasper, Lake, Newton, and Porter) as the preeminent leadership development organization for girls.
