Ambrosia Euro-American Patisserie to host live charity music event October 3
BARRINGTON IL - Ambrosia Euro-American Patisserie, 710 Northwest Highway, will host "Chicago's official troubadour"Mark Dvorak for a special music program to support Journeys-The Road Home on Saturday, October 3 from10:30 am to 12 noon.
The safe, social-distance event is sponsored by Music and Potlucks, a community organization, and takes place rain or shine.
Music and Potlucks is based in the Oak Park River Forest area and is in its fifth season of presenting music events to support the homeless and the hungry.
"With the pandemic upon us," said co-director Betsy Backes, who is president of the board of Beyond Hunger in River Forest. "We've had to get a little creative to keep our initiative going. A lot of families have been hit hard this year. We're seeing a lot of food insecurity and shelter insecurity in our area. Debby Rivera (owner of Ambrosia) and I have been friends for a long time. I sent her a text to see if she'd like to add a little music to her Saturday morning schedule to support Journeys, and she jumped at the idea."
Journeys-The Road Home is a non-profit agency that provides both shelter and social services to the homeless and those at risk in thirty-seven towns in North and Northwest suburban Cook County. Donations ton Journeys can be made at the Oct. 3 event or by visiting www.journeystheroadhome.org.
"We're thrilled that Mark is able to join us for this "pop-up" event," said Backes. "He is a treasured member of our community and we find a special affinity for his music and message."
The Chicago Tribune has called Dvorak "masterful," and the Fox Valley Folk Festival describes him as "a living archive of song and style." He has recorded eighteen albums to date including Let Love Go On released earlier this year. Dvorak has won awards for journalism and children's music, and was honored in 2013 with the FARM Lantern Bearer Award from Folk Alliance International. In 2008 he received the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award and in 2012 Rich Warren, long time host of The Midnight Special radio program named Dvorak "Chicago's official troubadour."
