Celebrate National Bike Month in Schaumburg this September

The Village of Schaumburg encourages the public to celebrate National Bike Month in September and is offering a variety of fun activities with a focus on solo and safely distanced bike events.

Businesses and organizations are being encouraged to form virtual teams of four and participate in the second annual Business Bike Classic, where riders will record their bicycle mileage for anywhere a team member bicycles during September for a chance to win a trophy and prizes. Mileage from spinning and stationary bikes is eligible to be counted. Teams may register online at www.bitly.com/2020businessbikeclassic.

Community members are invited to take part in the inaugural Discover Schaumburg by Bike photo challenge, which is open to the public. The challenge, sponsored by the village of Schaumburg and the Schaumburg Park District, will last the entire month of September.

To participate, bicyclists are asked to take a bike-themed selfie or photo at their favorite Schaumburg restaurant, park or destination. Photos must then be submitted online at https://bit.ly/2Q3Ts3Y.

The individual who submits the most photos in each category will be recognized and awarded with a prize. All participants will also receive a special gift bag, while supplies last.

For more information about National Bike Month events and activities, visit www.schaumburg.com/bikeevents, dial 311 in the village, or contact Richard Bascomb at rbascomb@schaumburg.com.

Schaumburg has more than 90 miles of bike path, 1,000 bike parking racks and locker spaces, bicycle racks on village trolleys, bicycle parking at the Metra Station and the Northwest Transportation Center, a community-based bicycle club and links with each of its neighbors throughout the Chicago region.
