The "Friends Helping Friends" Campaign is an Overwhelming Success
Mission Accomplished! In May, the Friends of Cycling in Elk Grove (FCEG) developed a special Friends Helping Friends campaign to help many of their local sponsors who have supported nonprofit bike advocacy in the past. Currently, these same businesses have been negatively impacted by the COVID 19 virus outbreak and subsequent economic downturn.
The Friends of Cycling in Elk Grove today announced, that thanks to the generous donations from their members and other local citizens, they have surpassed their goal of collecting $2,500 which, combined with a matching donation from FCEG, will provide $5,085 to be used to purchase Gift Cards from local businesses.
"Financial support from local businesses has been key to our bicycle advocacy group's success for the past several years," says Dave Simmons, president of the Friends of Cycling Elk Grove. "As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, some of our local sponsors have experienced hardships. Many have had to temporarily close or reduce hours to stay afloat. The FCEG felt it was time to 'Pay it Forward' and do something to help those who have done so much for us in the past."
Gift cards were purchased from the following local businesses:
7 Mile Cycle, All Ways Catering & Deli, Elk Grove Dairy Queen, Jarosch Bakery, Maple Leaf Coffee Roasters, Marino's Woodfire Pizza, Mikerphone Brewing, RoccoVino's, Tapalpa Mexican Restaurant, Vini's Pizza in Elk Grove and Wine With Me.
The second phase of the campaign was to identify the groups who should be the recipients of the purchased gift cards. The "Friends Helping Friends" action team chose the following groups who were felt to be providing so much to our community as "front line" workers.
The Alexian Brothers hospital nursing staff, the Elk Grove Fire Department, the Elk Grove Township Food Pantry, the Elk Grove Police Department, the employees of Elk Grove Jewel, and the Elk Grove Food Panty.
