Lincolnshire's Village Club supports City Kids Camp

A crowd of more than 60 engaged community members came together at the Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling March 13 to take part in a Trivia Night fundraising effort coordinated by The Village Club of Lincolnshire.

This event, which featured a buffet dinner, team trivia, silent auction and raffles, benefited City Kids Camp, a local nonprofit organization that provides refuge and respite for Chicago at-risk children by giving them the opportunity to experience nature and inner peace in the safe environment of a residential summer camp.

The event successfully raised $6,500, which will cover the cost of sending 12 kids to camp for one week. This financial assistance by The Village Club is greatly appreciated now more than ever, as the current effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have virtually halted other fundraising efforts.

"The Village Club is a group of caring, thoughtful people who put their money where their mouth is," said Hector Corona, founder and president of City Kids Camp.

"They are dedicated to helping kids and people who they have never met, but understand the needs are there for others less fortunate. City Kids Camp is honored to receive the generous donation on behalf of the kids that normally can't afford a camp experience. Thanks to all for making this happen during a time of major stress and financial uncertainty. We are forever grateful and cannot thank them enough."

City Kids Camp's mission and passion has always been to provide a refuge and respite for at-risk children and give them the opportunity to experience nature, camp and some inner peace.

Whether faced with the physical effects of poverty or the danger of gangs, violence, drug abuse and hopelessness, City Kids Camp wants to provide children a place to experience a true outdoor adventure.

City Kids Camp believes in building foundations that lead to hope, motivation and a better future through mentorships, motivational speakers, counseling, opportunities for internships, continuing education and, ultimately, finding meaningful work.

The Village Club, originally named the Welcome Wagon Newcomers of Lincolnshire, began in 1974 with the purpose of welcoming new women to Lincolnshire. Through a variety of events and activities, these women took an active role in the civic, social and spiritual welfare of the community.

In 2008, The Village Club expanded membership to include all women within the School District 103 boundaries. Recently, in an effort to make a positive impact on the broader community, The Village Club added a philanthropic component, which includes creating awareness and fundraising for a different cause each year.
