Naperville American Legion to hold chili cook-off benefit March 28

Honor one of Naperville's own at the American Legion Chili Cookoff and Fundraiser on Saturday, March 28.

Wayne Fischer, a man well known in Naperville for his service to the community, is currently senior vice commander, American Legion, Department of Illinois. He will become Commander of the Department of Illinois at its state convention in July 2020.

It is certainly a well-deserved honor for Wayne and Naperville American Legion Post 43.

Moreover, his talents and determination will do much for the American Legion and the many programs it sponsors, alone and in conjunction with other civic and service organizations, in Naperville and across the state.

Many of these are centered around what the Legion refers to as its "Four Pillars": service to youth, service to the community, service to veterans/military personnel and support for a strong national defense.

Fischer's two-year period of service as vice commander and commander will involve traveling throughout the state and to many national functions. While his major travel and lodging expenses are covered, there are many incidental expenses that are not.

So, Post 43 is throwing a party, or actually a chili cookoff!

It will start at 5:30 p.m. March 28 at VFW Post 3873's Kendall Hall, 908 W. Jackson. Admission is $10.

There will be chili with all the fixings, a big pot by the Kendall cooks to tide you over until the judging of the competitors is complete, and then you can dig into their creations. There will be entertainment, a cash bar, raffles of donated craft goods, white elephant baskets, tickets, wine baskets and who knows what else Naperville's great businesses and citizens will donate.

Come for a good cause; bring your friends to have a great time.

You can enter your own chili; there is no additional charge to enter but the number of competitors will be limited. To participate in the chili cook-off, contact Nadia Rios at (630) 728-7519 or rios.nadia@gmail.com. Also contact Rios if you are interested in attending the event or donating to the fundraiser.
