The Signal Hill Chapter NSDAR announces American History Essay Winners

2020 marks the 400th anniversary of the voyage of the Mayflower and the founding of Plymouth Colony and was this year's essay topic. Specifically, this year's essay writers were invited to imagine being one of the passengers on the Mayflower. Knowing what materials were available in 1620, what would you have packed to prepare for the trip and start a new life in the wilderness? After experiencing more than two months at sea and finally landing at Plymouth Colony on November 9, 1620, do you think you would have made different choices and why?

The first-place winners:

5th grade is Abagail S. Betz from Hough Street School in Barrington.

6th grade is Kalyani Manjunadh from Station Middle School in Barrington.

7th grade is Tyler Chang from Barrington Middle School Station Campus. Tyler is also the winner for our District 4, and the Illinois State Champion!

8th grade is Jainik Shroff from Barrington Middle
