Vote for your favorite way to play at Plum Grove Reservoir Park's playground

Palatine Park District invites the community to be a part of the decision-making process as staff members select the final amenities for the playground at Plum Grove Reservoir Park, located on the southeast end of Harper College campus. The playground is scheduled for replacement later this spring pending weather conditions.

To participate, we encourage patrons to visit our website at www.palatineparks.org and take the survey. The survey is now live and will be accepting submissions until Friday, Feb.14th. Patrons can also complete a paper survey, by visiting our one of our three recreation centers, beginning February 3rd.

In a 1981 lease agreement with Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD), 36 acres of reservoir land was acquisitioned by Palatine Park District and 8.5 acres from Harper College to form Plum Grove Reservoir Park. The 44-acre parcel offers a variety of assets to the community, including direct connections from the Palatine Trail to both Algonquin and Schaumburg Trails, a dog park, lightning detection, accessible fishing pier, outdoor shelter, and a playground.

Palatine Park District is responsible for 735 acres of open land in Palatine, including 5 park and facility locations that are home to 30 playgrounds. The Parks Department inspects and maintains the playgrounds to ensure the District is offering safe places to play for the community. The District employs certified playground safety inspectors through the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) and certified playground inspectors through the Park District Risk Management Agency (PDRMA). The playgrounds are part of an overall District-wide equipment replacement schedule. Based on inspection results and equipment condition, playgrounds are usually replaced every 14-16 years.

The existing playground equipment from Plum Grove Reservoir Park will be removed and re-purposed by Kids Around the World. This organization installs refurbished playground equipment in areas of the world that are often affected by war, poverty, disease, or natural disaster. In addition to providing these additional opportunities for play to children in need, the park district also receives the added benefit of cost savings for the equipment removal.

The Plum Grove Reservoir Park playground is scheduled to be completed in Summer 2020. Visit the Park District's Construction Projects page for construction progress. For more information about these playground sites, contact Superintendent of Parks and Planning Jim Holder at 847.705.5131.

The mission of Palatine Park District is to provide a variety of safe, enjoyable, and affordable parks, programs, and recreational facilities that will enhance the quality of life by promoting good health and well-being for all residents and visitors while being fiscally responsible stewards of community assets and tax dollars.
