The Carpenters tribute concert at Forest View Nov. 10

Are you a fan of the timeless music of The Carpenters? You won't want to miss "Close to You: The Music of The Carpenters" when it comes close to you!

This authentic tribute will make its way to Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road in Arlington Heights on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m.

Lisa Rock, singer and playwright, and her band has been busy performing in various states as part of its 10-year anniversary tour. She has put together a touching tribute to celebrate the music and life of Karen Carpenter, who is considered one of the best vocalists of all time.

"Their music has stood the test of time," said Rock, about The Carpenters' hits such as "Close to You," "We've Only Just Begun," "Rainy Days and Mondays," and many more.

Rock said she grew up in a home where her parents listened to The Carpenters and their music has been a big part of her life.

"There was never another female singer like that," said Rock. "It wasn't about an image, it was about the music."

Like Carpenter, Rock has an impressive vocal range, with a four-octave range. She performs with six talented and versatile band members that bring the music of The Carpenters to life.

Going beyond the music, Rock draws the audience in with her interesting anecdotes about how some of their adored songs originated.

Rock has been performing to sold-out crowds for years and has written more than 15 original concerts and cabarets that people across the country have loved.

Rock said "Close to You: The Music of the Carpenters" will bring back memories of that time period for many audience members. Rock loves to see people of all generations enjoying their show.

Tickets for the show are $15 for Gold Card members, $18 in advance and $20 at the door. Gold Card members can call the Community Education Office at (847) 718-7700.
