Goddard's preschool scientists create protective devices for Pumpkin Drop

You've heard of eggs protected by student-made contraptions that are dropped for high places to help students understand the laws of gravity. What about a pumpkin drop?

It's an egg drop with a holiday twist and it happened at a local The Goddard School.

Local preschoolers participated in a pumpkin drop on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at The Goddard School, 801 Georgetown Drive in Cary, wrapping up what they learned about gravity.

Leading up to the event, the children attending the school learned the different scientific concepts of gravity, inertia and the scientific method. The classes implemented what they learned by creating their own devices to protect their class pumpkin for the drop.

The Goddard School partnered with the Cary Fire Department, who helped by dropping the pumpkins, safely protected in their creation.

Children guessed if the pumpkin broke or was protected.
