UPS group volunteers at Marklund in Geneva

Nearly 40 employees from UPS in Addison took time out of their Saturday morning on Sept. 7, to volunteer at the Marklund campus in Geneva.

Marklund is a nonprofit organization that provides residential and therapeutic services to children and adults with profound developmental disabilities.

Coming out to the facility as a team-building experience and as a way to give back to the community, the "UPSers" made new friendships with the residents, and had a blast playing Marklund-style baseball on a beautiful day at the Miracle League Field located on the site.

The nonprofit has volunteer opportunities available at the Marklund Philip Center in Bloomingdale and Marklund Wasmond Center in Elgin. Volunteers work directly with the residents and students, helping with therapeutic, recreational and educational activities, like interactive games, arts and crafts, and community outings. There are also opportunities to work with students in the therapeutic day school classrooms.

Each site has activities and outings at different times and days of the week, allowing accommodations for a range of schedules.

They are always looking for volunteers for annual events like the recent Summer Games or the upcoming Gift Opening event during the holidays.

To become a volunteer, contact Lisa Esposito at (630) 397-5661 or lesposito@marklund.org.
