Mike's Market in Villa Park celebrating its 50th anniversary this month

Longtime local butcher and gourmet food purveyor Mike's Market, 32 S. Villa Ave., is celebrating its 50th anniversary in Villa Park with a month-long extravaganza!

Regular customers and newcomers are invited to stop by any weekend in August to watch grilling demos from Big Guy BBQ, Anthony's Grill (pizza) and the folks at Weber Grill, and sample delicious Boar's Head "deli-casies."

Plus enter the raffle to win prizes, including a Weber Summit E-470 gas grill, two Weber Original Kettle Grills, a year's worth of meat from Mike's, and more. All raffle proceeds benefit Easter Seals.

Brothers-in-law Mike Casey and Mike Kelly opened Mike's Market in April 1969 in downtown Villa Park. After 18 months, Mike Kelly left to open a store in Park Ridge, and Mike Casey carried on with a staff of four, including his son Dan. In 1974, 13-year-old son David joined the family business, and remains at the helm today, joined by Casey grandson Joe Lane. Today Mike's employs 28 local butchers, slicers, sandwich makers and cashiers.

Over the last 50 years, a lot has changed about the way people live and shop, but one thing has remained a constant at Mike's: customer service. There's something special about a local store, unique in a sea of franchises and big box retailers. At Mike's you might take a number, but pretty soon, they'll be calling you by name when you walk through the door.
