Children's program investigates Medieval Europe this July

Des Plaines, IL-Des Plaines History Center's Interpretive Curator Emma Marston has already "traveled" to Ancient Egypt and Ancient China with her seasonal children's program, "Summer Adventures for Kids." This program, open to all children ages 5-12 and their families, features a weekly lesson and craft about global cities during a specific time period. June was an investigation of the great civilizations of the ancient Asiatic world. July will be an investigation of Medieval Europe: the Middle Ages, the Age of Exploration, and the Renaissance.

Curator Marston explains the importance of children learning about the progress and beauty of societies passed: "Europe has a long history of beautiful art and ingenious inventions, from the Middle Ages up through the Renaissance, and the Age of Exploration, when daring sea voyagers began to explore the oceans. While families might know a little about European history already, I think our July adventures will be a great opportunity to experience castles, the high seas, and famous art in a whole new way."

This children series meets every Wednesday during July & August from 1:00pm to 3:00pm., at the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson St, Des Plaines.

Wednesday, July 3, will have no activity due to Independence Day.

Admission is free due to the generosity of VFW Post 2992.
