ECC's spring commencement set for May 18

Elgin Community College will hold two commencement ceremonies for the spring 2019 graduating class on Saturday, May 18.

Five hundred thirty-four graduating students are expected to participate.

Both ceremonies will be held in the Building J Events Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Students are assigned to the graduation ceremony based on the credential being earned.

A ceremony for career and technical programs (associate of applied science degrees, vocational specialist certificates and basic vocational specialist certificates) will be held at 10 a.m.

A ceremony for university transfer degrees (associate in arts, associate in science, associate in fine arts-visual art emphasis, associate in fine arts-music performance emphasis, associate in engineering science and associate in liberal studies) will be held at 2 p.m.

This year's student speakers at the career and technical programs ceremony will be Angela Andrada and Nicole Regina. The commencement address for both ceremonies will be given by ECC President David Sam, Ph.D., JD, LLM.

Congratulatory remarks also will be delivered by Donna Redmer, Ed.D., chair of the Community College District 509 board of trustees.

Guests do not need tickets for admission to the ceremonies and open seating is available. The doors will open one hour prior to the start of each ceremony.
