London students participate in global goals conversation

Seventeen London Middle School students participated in a conversation about the United Nations' Global Goals for Sustainable Development on March 21.

The 17 Global Goals, adopted by all 193 member states of the United Nations in September 2015, aim to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities, and tackle climate change by 2030. The London group researched many of the goals and five students presented on four of the global goals: no hunger, good health and wellbeing, clean water and sanitation, and gender equality.

"I'm so proud of the time our students dedicated to researching the goals, compiling their presentation, and for their poise in presenting before panelists, global goal ambassadors, other teachers, students, and the public," said Luis Correa, principal of London Middle School.

"It is so inspiring to see our students engage on a worldwide platform about high-stakes goals that are real and relevant to global sustainability," said Tracy Crowley, Literacy and Information Coach at London Middle School.

The Achieving the Global Goals panel discussion was hosted Thursday, March 21, at University of Illinois at Chicago, and co-organized by United Nations Association-Chicago, Model United Nations UIC, and the Pulitzer Center.
