Elk Grove names new member for Zoning Board of Appeals

Elk Grove Village resident Roberto Serrano Jr. was sworn in as a new member of the Elk Grove Village Zoning Board of Appeals during a recent board meeting.

During the meeting, Serrano said he looks forward to giving back to the community and is excited to serve as a member.

The Zoning Board of Appeals consists of nine volunteer residents, one of whom serves as chairman. The board holds public hearings to consider petitions for variations to the village's zoning ordinance and make recommendations to the mayor and board of trustees concerning the petitions.

• Gina Schiavone has been appointed director of VISA at Consumers Credit Union. Schiavone joined the 89-year-old institution in 2017, when Consumers Credit Union merged with Meadows Credit Union in Palatine.

In her new role, the Rolling Meadows resident will direct the VISA Credit and Debit Card programs and ensure quality member service within the department, drawing on her background with card programs, project management, underwriting, loan processing, new accounts and human resource management.

Schiavone holds a bachelor's degree in business management, with a human resource concentration from Eastern Illinois University. She is also a graduate of the CUNA Management School.

Consumers Credit Union has offices in Waukegan, Mundelein, Round Lake Beach, Gurnee, North Waukegan, Volo, Kildeer, Palatine, Schaumburg and Northbrook.

• Schaumburg native Brina Kay, a Nashville singer and songwriter, released her first single, "Horizon," on March 8.

Kay graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2017 and spent the summer performing with the Nebraska-based Gunnison Drive Band. Since moving to Nashville, she plays at writer's rounds on Nashville's Lower Broadway and is in production with Mike Anderson, a Nashville composer, on four additional new singles set to come out in April, May and July.

As a frequent traveler, Kay found inspiration for her single during an early morning flight out of Nashville. This single celebrates those who have the courage to chase their dreams despite naysayers and nonbelievers.

Kay was born and raised in Schaumburg and attended Schaumburg High School.

• Michael Schyman, commissioner of the Northbrook Park District, received a Master Board Member Award from the Illinois Association of Park Districts.

Schyman received the honor through his participation in the Illinois Association of Park Districts Board Member Development Program, which recognizes committee involvement, pursuit of board member educational opportunities, legislative advocacy and achievements at the local, state and national levels in the field of parks, recreation and conservation.

Schyman joined the Northbrook Park District board in 2009. The park district is one of more than 350-member agencies of Illinois Association of Park Districts.
