ECC Arts Center to host The Everly Set salute Feb. 15
On Friday, Feb. 15, two acclaimed New York singer-songwriters will perform a sparkling salute to the music of The Everly Brothers during "The Everly Set: Sean Altman and Jack Skuller Approximate The Everly Brothers" at the ECC Arts Center. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m.
In 1957, teenagers Phil and Don Everly released mega-hits "Bye Bye Love" and "Wake Up Little Susie." The Everly Brothers would go on to release charted hits for three decades. The duo supercharged the vocal sound of rock 'n' roll with their trademark harmonies and influenced a wide-range of artists including The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, The Hollies, Peter Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan, the Bee Gees, and the Eagles.
Now, six decades later, two acclaimed New York singer-songwriters have combined forces to become The Everly Set. Sean Altman and Jack Skuller met in 2010 when the two were paired together to sing "Mrs. Robinson" at a tribute to Simon and Garfunkel.
They formed The Everly Set in 2015 when, as a lark, they performed a set of Everly Brothers songs and bought the first of many sets of matching shirts on eBay. During The Everly Set, the duo performs a range of Everly Brothers hits, rarities, and Everly-influenced classics - all sung with iconic and pristine harmonies.
Sean Altman - widely regarded as "the father of modern a capella"- co-founded and led the pioneering vocal group Rockapella through its heyday on the Emmy-winning daily PBS TV series "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" He also co-wrote the show's well-known theme song. Altman's original songs have been featured on dozens of TV and radio shows including "Saturday Night Live," NPR's "Fresh Air with Terry Gross," "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart," "The Colbert Report," and "Schoolhouse Rock." Altman has shared concert stages with Billy Joel, Steve Miller, Whoopi Goldberg, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Jay Leno, and Joey Ramone.
Jack Skuller, released his first single at the age of 14 on Bar/None Records, setting the stage for an authentic rock and roll upbringing. Radio Disney took notice and sponsored a 15 city tour which garnered the attention of outlets from Consequence of Sound to Teen Vogue to American Songwriter. In 2014, Skuller was recognized by Songmasters and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame for his breakthrough talent as a singer/songwriter/performer. They awarded him the Holly Prize in tribute to the legacy of Buddy Holly and in recognition of Skuller's all-in-one talent.
