Social media changes how garden clubs are perceived

The Hawthorn Garden Club of Glen Ellyn has climbed on board the social media, internet train. Introducing the club's website is exciting for us.

Interestingly enough, in just a short time, there seems to be a lot more interest being piqued. It's easier to look in and see what the fuss is about. No pressure.

The interest isn't just the older adults. It's the younger adults who want to know what they can do?

This community service club has been around for many years.

And like many of the others it has suffered the stigma that garden clubs are for older people. Mostly because the clubs generally started in a small neighborhoods while the children were away at school.

Times have changed and it has become more than a social gathering only talking about flowers. Now we are all concerned for our futures and not just ours but our future generations - our own children and their children.

The Hawthorn Garden Club of Glen Ellyn invites you to check out their website which isn't just about the club, but it focuses on other organizations that all share in common interests and concerns.

It's the decisions we make today which determines just how healthy our earth is going to be in the future.

Something as simple as putting this years pumpkin into the compost instead of the landfill will make a difference. One step at a time.

I challenge each and everyone of you to find your one thing to start with. Join the club if you like. Tell them your story. They always welcome new members. Start by visiting hawthorngardenclubofglenellyn.com.
