Local author Patrick Parks to visit ECC Writers Center Reading Series Oct. 18

Elgin Community College will welcome local author Patrick Parks as the next featured guest of the Writers Center Reading Series on Thursday, Oct. 18. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the ECC Arts Center, Building H, Room H142, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Parks is the author of the extraordinary new novel "Tucumcari." His fiction has appeared in The Chattahoochee Review, The Beloit Fiction Journal, Clockwatch Review, Farmer's Market, B City and the anthology "The Breast."

Parks was the editor of Black Dirt, a literary journal, and "Sarajevo: An Anthology for Bosnian Relief." A graduate of the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, Parks taught writing at Elgin Community College for 26 years and was named National Community College Teacher of the Year.

All Writers Center readings are free and open to the public. A pre-reading dinner with Parks will be held at 5:30 p.m. Books will be available for sale and signing.

Author Sandi "S.L." Wisenberg will be the next Writers Center Reading Series guest on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
