Heartland Animal Shelter Hopes to Clear the Shelters Aug. 18

NBCUniversal owned television stations' fourth annual Clear the Shelters initiative is being held on Saturday, Aug. 18. Clear the Shelters is a community-driven, nationwide pet adoption campaign that is dedicated to placing animal lovers with their perfect pet. NBC is teaming up with Heartland Animal Shelter in Northbrook, Ill. to offer potential pet parents waived or reduced adoption fees for one adorable afternoon.

Nearly 100 dogs and cats are waiting for their forever homes at Heartland. All animals over six months old will have their adoption fees either waived or discounted on Aug. 18, 1-5 p.m. Pets are vetted before adoption, including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccines.

Prospective pet parents are encouraged to complete online applications prior to the event and should bring all (human) family members to the event. Adoption counselors will be on hand to help match pets with their potential families. Heartland's normal adoption process and procedures will be upheld during Clear the Shelters. Applications will be reviewed for approval following the event and animals will be sent home between Aug. 19 and 31. Heartland does not conduct same day adoptions.

The event will also include vendors who will give away pet product samples and discuss the needs of a new furry family member.

Heartland Animal Shelter is located at 2975 Milwaukee Ave., Northbrook, Ill. Regular shelter hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 4-7 p.m., Saturday, 1-5 p.m. and Sunday 12-4 p.m.
