Mariano's makes donations to food pantry and library

On Wednesday morning, Mariano's President Don Rosanova presented checks in the amount of $2,500 to the Vernon Township Food Pantry and Vernon Area Public Library to boost their work in the communities they serve.

Rosanova commented on Mariano's ongoing commitment to alleviate hunger. The stores regularly contribute to the Vernon Township Pantry, which currently serves more than 400 households, including senior citizens and single-parent families. "People are struggling to make ends meet," explained Township Supervisor Daniel Didech.

Case worker Nancy Urice talked about the growth of Vernon Township pantry supplies, aided by donations like those from Mariano's as well as from the library, where a community-tended vegetable garden yields produce throughout the growing season. Now in its sixth year, the library garden has benefited many local families with fresh vegetables.

Rosanova also talked about the importance of libraries as resources for job hunters, destinations for learning and points of access to information for all. Janice Kellman, head of community engagement and programming, was on hand with library director Cynthia Fuerst and program coordinator Roz Topolski to accept the generous donation.
