Kyuki-Do Martial Arts of Elgin celebrates 9 new black belt promotions

Nine students from Kyuki-Do Martial Arts of Elgin promoted to 1st Dan Black Belt or higher on Saturday, May 5.

The daylong event, held at the Huntley Park District, began with eligible candidates from throughout the Midwest testing for various levels of achievement.

The students from Kyuki-Do Martial Arts of Elgin promoting were:

• 1st Dan: Carly Berg, Melissa Berg, Aaditya Dave, Kyle Diven and AJ Ptasinski

• 2nd Dan: Stephanie Bodio, Ashley Brakeall, Isaac Dungey and Phillip Ptasinski.

Immediately following the Promotional Examination the Spring Tournament of Champions was held.

More than 260 competitors participated from 13 academies from as far away as Lexington, Kentucky.

Kyuki-Do Martial Arts of Elgin had 65 students participating in these competitions. The next tournament of this magnitude will be held in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, in early August.
