Girls volleyball: Ferriss nets 24 kills to lead Buffalo Grove past Prospect

Senior outside hitter Claire Ferriss walloped 24 kills and collected 30 digs for Mid-Suburban East co-leader Buffalo Grove, which posted a 27-25, 33-35, 25-15 girls volleyball win over visiting Prospect on Thursday night.

Sophomore Shannon Coglianese added 11 kills and Hannah Arbitman had 5 for the offense set by senior Maggie Streckert (40 assists).

Streckert also served 4 aces while Gianna Loverde had 3 for the Bison (15-8, 7-1).

Nina Masciopinto added 23 digs followed by Kristen Belias (15) and Streckert 12.

Taylor Skaggs distributed 35 assists for Prospect (12-11, 3-5) which was led on attack by Grace Cacini (16 kills), Emma Cogan (9), Sloane Petlak (7) and Elizabeth Abraham (3). Ashley Adams led the back row with 24 digs followed by Cacini (23) and Cogan (22).

Barrington d. Hoffman Estates: Host Barrington remained tied for first with Fremd in the Mid-Suburban West with a 25-18, 25-14 win. The Fillies (14-8, 7-1) were led on attack by Bailey Madrzyk (8 kills, 10 points, 3 aces, 2 digs) and Peyton Tilly (7 kills, 4 digs).

Seniors Sabrina Loutos (16 assists, 6 points, 1 ace, 2 digs) and Tara Kozak (9 assists, 1 dig) set the attack against the Hawks (1-15, 0-8).

Other key performers were Paige Ramel (1 blocks, 6 kills), Ola Magiera (1 kill), Lauren Carder (4 points, 2 digs), Arianna Armando (2 digs, 2 points), Noelle Daehler (3 kills) and Mia Ruffolo (4 digs, 8 points).

Hersey d. Rolling Meadows: The visiting Huskies (17-5, 7-1) remained tied for first with Buffalo Grove in the MSL East after a 25-21 25-21 triumph that saw Huskies junior Kati Kaburov collect 13 kills, 5 digs and 2 blocks. Setting the offense was Kaiya Eshoo (18 assists, 4 digs).

Other key performer for Hersey were Juliette Vandenherik (3 kills, 6 blocks, 2 digs), Alessia Olhava (3 kills, 11 digs), Janine Boyan (2 blocks, 1 kill), Kate Lubbe (4 blocks), Katie Moreno (5 digs), Maddie Mullin (6 digs) and Karolina Wojdacz (1 ace, 3 digs).

"Rolling Meadows challenged us in both games but we held on for the match," said Hersey coach Nancy Lill. "Kati Kaburov and Juliette Vandenherik were outstanding tonight. It was an essential win for the Huskies in the MSL East."

Meadows (13-14, 4-4) was led on attack by Elise Kowalski (7 kills), Ashlyn Ryan (6 kills) and Eleanor Errico (4 kills) while Natalie Klancnik handed out 16 assists and Sophia Salemi had 12 digs. Leticia Avellaneda served 3 aces and Maggie Goodwin had two.

Wheeling d. Elk Grove: Nicole Nguyen (13 digs) put down 8 kills and Kamila Staniszewski (11 digs) added 7 kills as visiting Wheeling (12-15, 3-5) won the MSL East match 25-17, 25-16. Ellie Welter added 4 kills in the offense set by Grace Zambrano (22 assists).

Nosa Igiehon added 3 kills, 2 digs and a block for the Wildcats.

Rachel Kandefer and Kaitlyn Ingebrigtsen each had 5 kills for the Grens (0-22, 0-8) while Megan Murray collected 9 digs. Setters Molly Wilson and Lauren Bongiovanni each had 5 assists.

Schaumburg d. Conant: Visiting Schaumburg raised its record to 10-10 and 5-3 with a 25-20, 26-24 win in the MSL West over Conant (8-12, 2-6).

Glenbrook North d. Maine West: The host Spartans netted a 25-21, 14-25, 22-25 over the Warriors (12-11, 4-3), who were led by Kaylin Johnson (15 digs), Reilly Olson (6 kills, 8 digs) and Ally Block (5 aces) in the CSL North match.
