Girls volleyball: Stevenson triumphs over Zion-Benton
Sophie Sorenson had 7 kills and 6 aces, and Stevenson's girls volleyball team defeated host Zion-Benton 25-10, 25-10 in North Suburban Conference action Wednesday night.
The Patriots (8-3, 2-0) got 3 kills apiece from Grace Tully, Annie Armgardt and Lily Cozzi. Tully also dished out 13 assists, and Vanessa Obrycki served 2 aces.
Mundelein d. Waukegan: Alexis Naddy had 9 kills, and the Mustangs outlasted the Bulldogs 25-15, 22-25, 25-17 in North Suburban action.
The Mustangs (9-6, 2-0) featured a balanced attack, as Brianna Martin added 6 kills, Isabella Cartland had five, Faith Krabbe contributed four, and Taylor Heath and Thea Vogt each chipped in three. Krabbe was 46-of-48 setting with 14 assists, while Claudia Wilcox had 11 assists on 30-of-30 setting. Mundelein got 2 aces apiece from Hana Fakhoury, Martin, Naddy and Heath.
Vernon Hills d. Maine East: The Cougars won 25-21, 25-22 in Central Suburban League North Division action, as senior right side hitter Zoe Eitel paced the offense with 5 kills followed by junior Emma Ginster and senior Rachel Wright with 3 kills each.
Sophomore setter Abby Wisniewski tallied 2 service aces. Senior middle blocker Allison Chase totaled 5 blocks, and junior libero Cece Schumacher had 9 digs.
Vernon Hills improved to 4-7 and 1-1 in the CSL North.
Richmond-Burton d. Wauconda: The Rockets won 25-20, 25-23 in nonconference action.
Wauconda (4-11) was led by Erika Kraml's 7 kills, 6 aces and 8 digs. The Bulldogs' other contributors included Tara Bierdz (4 kills), Raquel Acosta (14 digs), Savannah Johnson (9 digs, 9 assists, 2 kills) and Nicole Callahan (3 kills).
Libertyville splits: As part of the Wheaton Classic, the Wildcats finished second in their pool, losing to Benet Academy 25-16, 25-21 and defeating Naperville Central 26-24, 27-25.
