Girls volleyball: Kaburov's 8 kills lead Hersey in MSL East win

Junior Kati Kaburov put down 8 kills and Kate Lubbe added 5 for 15-time defending Mid-Suburban East girls volleyball champion Hersey in a 25-14, 24-10 win over Prospect in the Jean Walker Field House in Mt. Prospect Tuesday night.

Other top performers for the Huskies (8-3, 2-0) were Juliette Vandenherik (3 kills, 2 blocks), Janine Boyan (2 kills, 2 blocks), Maddie Mullin (12 digs, 4 aces, 3 assists), Alessia Olhava (11 assists, 1 kill, 6 digs, 2 blocks), Kaiya Eshoo (6 assists, 4 digs, 1 kill), Lauren Solans (2 aces, 1 dig) and Karolina Wojdacz 6 digs, 1 ace) in the MSL East triumph.

Elizabeth Abraham (5 kills), Emma Cogan (8 digs) and Sarah Skaggs (8 assists) were among the team leaders for Prospect (3-4, 0-2).

Fremd d. Hoffman Estates: Visiting Fremd (10-1, 2-0) posted a 25-16, 25-21 victory in the MSL West as Peyton Hooker (10 kills), Heidi Sayre (6) and Claudia Wala (3) set by Rian Baker (15 assists) and Lydia Vander Ark (7 assists).

Maddie Aichinger was 14-of-16 serve receiving and she served a pair of aces. Wala and Baker also served 2 aces against the Hawks (1-8, 0-2).

Rolling Meadows d. Wheeling: Rolling Meadows (9-7, 2-0) got past visiting Wheeling 25-23, 25-13 in the MSL East as Eleanor Errico (8 kills), Ashlyn Ryan (7) and Letecia Avellaneda (5) led the offense set by Natalie Klancnik, who handed out 16 assists from 52 attempts.

Ryan was also 10-of-10 serving with 3 aces and she had 7 digs.

Errico had a pair of block while Klancnik had 1. Sophia Salemi also recorded 7 dogs.

Nicole Nguyen (3 kills), Rugile Jaciunas (3) and Kamile Staniszewski (2) led the Wildcats (6-8, 1-1) on attack while attack, Rugile Jaciunas (3) while Grace Zambrano handed out 11 assists. Nguyen also led with 9 digs followed by Johana Veloso, Zambrano and Peyton LaCaeyse who all had 5.

Barrington d. Conant: Host Barrington (4-6, 1-1) won the MSL West match 25-20, 25-17 as Peyton Tilly (7 kills, 5 points, 1 digs), Bailey Madrzyk (4 kills, 1 aces, 6 points, 7 digs), Tara Kozak (19 assists, 5 digs), Mia Rufollo (12 digs), Paige Ramel (2 blocks, 5 kills), Olivia Rojas (12 Digs, 6 points, 1 aces) and Ola Magiera (4 kills) led the way.

Yuri Hara (7 kills), Chikere Odoucha (5 kills), Natalie Jurgenson (6 kills), Makenzie Lunkes (11 digs) and Fiona Fennelly (11 assists) led the Cougars (6-9, 0-2).

Buffalo Grove d. Elk Grove: Host Buffalo Grove (5-6, 1-1) won the MSL East match as Claire Ferriss (11 kills), Shannon Coglianese (9) and Maggie Streckert led the offense. Streckert handed out 19 assist while Nina Masciopinto had 9 digs.

Rachel Kandefer and Grace Gallo led the Grenadiers (0-8, 0-2) with 6 kills apiece while Bongiovanni and Wilson each had 5 assists.

Carmel d. St. Viator: Carmel won the ESCC match 25-22, 25-22 over the Lions (5-9, 0-2) who were led on attack by Vicky Gorny (10 kills), Kate Nottoli (8 kills) and Carrie Leazer (4). Leazer (15 digs) also served 4 aces and Erin Aldana had 2. Aldana collected 17 assists and Katherine Drab had 6 assists

Maine West d. Deerfield: Maine West came from behind for 19-25, 25-20, 25-18 to improve to 6-4and 1-0 in the CSL North Reilly Olson (18 kills, 12 digs, 3 aces), Ally Block (16 assists, 4 kills, 2 aces) and Kaylin Johnson (11 digs) led the Warriors.

Downers Grove South d. Leyden: Downers Grove South posted a 25-18, 25-22 win over Leyden, which was led by senior outside hitter Destiny Corral (7 kills, 2 aces) and Bean Verin (12 digs).
