North Shore notes: Northbrook Symphony, Wayne Messmer Quartet performs

Northbrook Symphony Orchestra opens season

The Northbrook Symphony Orchestra opens its 44th season Sunday with a family concert titled "Vivaldi's Ring of Mystery."

In the concert, more than 25 excerpts of Vivaldi's famous works are woven into a drama with a pair of actors attempting to solve a mystery around the composer's life.

The NSO's subscription series, the fifth season under Music Director Mina Zikri, starts with "Two Generations" on Oct. 22 with Chicago Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Robert Chen and his daughter, Beatrice, playing Mozart; and Oct. 29 with violinist Ilya Kaler and son Daniel Kaler performing Brahms.

The NSO's Winter Concert, featuring Timothy Chooi on Beethoven and Brahms, is Jan. 14, 2024. "Virtuoso Violins" with soloist Vadim Gluzman is the focus of the March 24 concert.

The 44th season concludes June 9 in a program of Mexican music, "Fiesta Mexicana," featuring the Sones de Mexico Ensemble.

All concerts take place at 4 p.m. Sunday at Glenbrook North High School's Sheely Center for the Performing Arts.

Tickets for the family concert are $12.50; free for children ages 6-17 when accompanied by an adult.
