Join Women's Wave in Glenview's Jackman Park Saturday

Exactly one month before the Nov. 8 Election Day, a Women's Wave rally will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Jackman Park, 1011 Lehigh Ave., Glenview.

Women and their allies are invited for a women's march to build momentum for the 2022 midterm elections and highlight issues at stake on the Nov. 8 ballot, according to Glenview activist and march co-organizer Cathy Wilson.

"Women and activists across the country have never felt more urgency to turn up and speak out against the political forces that are attacking a woman's freedom to make life-changing decisions about her own body," Wilson said in an announcement for the event.

"In addition, we are speaking out against efforts to ban books and censor speech, suppress the right to vote, interfere with vote counting and election certification, erase marriage equality, deny self-identification, deny climate change, and halt gun safety reform. And the list goes on," she said.

The Glenview rally is part of the Women's March "National Weekend of Action," which according to the Women's March website earlier this week had more than 13,000 people slated to attend 383 upcoming events nationwide.

A movement that's now more than five years old, the first Women's March was held Jan. 17, 2017, and included more than 5 million people worldwide.

"This rally will bring together like-minded people who are passionate about fighting the extreme positions in our country that are an assault on our liberties and democratic institutions," Sara Khan, a Glenbrook South High School senior and Glenview march co-organizer, said in the announcement.

"We have invited a wide range of speakers to address these important issues and activist groups to set up tables," Khan said.
