Heartland shelter's new digs

The Heartland Animal Shelter invited volunteers and guests to a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday, Sept. 29, at its new home, 586 Palwaukee Drive, Wheeling. The shelter, which temporarily homes rescued dogs and cats for fostering and adoption, moved from its former location on Milwaukee Avenue in Northbrook earlier this year.

The ceremony included a speech from the Executive Director Jenny Schlueter, recognition of the staff and volunteers, treats and tours of the facilities, as well as a chance to meet some of the animals in Heartland's care that are up for adoption.

Heartland staff will also celebrate 20 years of rescuing animals with its Golden Paw Gala at the shelter Saturday, Oct. 15, featuring food, drinks, a silent auction, entertainment and tours of the shelter. Tickets can be purchased at heartlandanimalshelter.org. Online donations are also welcome.
