Paws-atively pup-lifting: Deerfield's dogs had their day before Fourth of July activities were canceled

Festivities started early at Jewett Park near downtown Deerfield before being canceled due to the tragic mass shooting at neighboring Highland Park's Fourth of July Parade. But until then, about 100 people gathered to watch dozens of dogs compete for novelty titles, including tallest dog, shortest dog, longest tail, and best costume.

There were also craft booths spread along a pathway, and a handful of women were preparing for a flower show under the pavilion.
