Northbrook/Glenview District 30's Wegley announces June 2023 retirement

Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 Superintendent Dr. Brian Wegley described his plan to retire next year as "bittersweet."

"By the end of next year, I will have finished my 35th year in education," Wegley said. "I have loved every step along the way."

Wegley made the announcement about his retirement - effective June 30, 2023 - during a special board of education meeting last week at Willowbrook School in Glenview.

He is looking forward to spending more time with his wife, children and grandson, Wegley added.

As an educator and administrator, his focus has been to help students and their families flourish.

"And that means supporting our teachers, supporting our administration team and helping our parents and kids move forward through their educational years," Wegley said. "I loved (as an administrator) being able to do that. Keeping a focus on kids is profound, and I've enjoyed every bit of that through my career."

Wegley said the District 30 board has been outstanding, and he was lucky to have been selected to serve as superintendent.

"We all know this is a special place," Wegley said.

School board President Dr. Nancy Artz spoke about how important Wegley's contributions have been in District 30.

"His leadership has been critical in the success of key district projects - building the new Maple School building, completing the Elementary Capacity Project, and navigating the COVID-19 pandemic," she said.

The announcement was made more than a year ahead of his retirement to allow ample time for the district to find a new superintendent.

"We are announcing now so we can get the next superintendent in place the correct way," Wegley said. "I will serve the district until my last day. We have a lot ahead of us, and a lot to do."
